    Oude Singel: two facades in one go

    Two neighbouring houses, two owners, one scaffold. One facade in brick red with off-white sash windows, the other in cream white with accents around the arched windows. Three weeks, including wood repairs to six sills.

  • Gloss red panelled door with a white frame in a brick facade

    Pieterswijk ·

    Pieterswijk: a front door in gloss red

    A panelled door from around 1900, stripped back to bare wood and built up again in five coats. The fanlight in the same colour, the frame in white. A small job, but the whole street looks at it.

    Oegstgeest: a hall with an ochre alcove

    Grey-blue walls and an arched alcove in warm ochre, exactly as Marloes had put it on the test swatches. Door and ceiling in lime white. Three working days.

  • Brick canal houses with stone gables and white window frames

    Rapenburg ·

    Rapenburg: window frames of a canal house

    Four storeys of small-paned sash windows. Everything sanded, filled and given two coats of off-white, and the stone mouldings cleaned. Five weeks, with scaffolding in front of the house all summer.

    Wallpaper with a graphic leaf pattern in the hallway and on the landing. All doors and skirting boards in a grey-blue we picked out of the wallpaper. Four working days.

    A simple plank door in a deep green-black, with a white frame and a white slatted fanlight. A door like that sets the tone for an entire old facade.

    Burgemeesterswijk: four porch doors

    Four porch doors from the 1920s in bottle green, with cream frames and zigzag fanlights. The four owners chose one colour together, after an afternoon of test swatches on the pavement.

    Oude Rijn ·

    Oude Rijn: a spiral staircase over three floors

    Treads, walls and ceiling in a warm white, the handrail lacquered dark. Most of the work was sanding between the balusters. Six working days.
